WHY SERENGETI
Most home care franchises were built from a business playbook and added clinical language later. We built ours from the clinical side first, and the difference shows up everywhere it matters.
The generic home care franchise is a brand wrapper around a staffing business: standardized scripts, identical websites, and clinical policies written to pass an audit rather than raise a standard. That model scales, but it doesn’t differentiate, which is why so many franchisees end up competing on price in saturated markets.
Serengeti was founded by credentialed nurses who had already run the clinical playbook in the real world and knew what referral partners, families, and caregivers actually want. When clinical leadership writes the model, the franchisee inherits credibility they would otherwise have to buy one family, one hospital, one hire at a time.
FOUNDER’S STORY
Built by people who practiced the work before franchising it.
Dr. Albert Munanga, President and CEO (DrBH, MSN, RN, MBA) and Josephine Mporokoso, Executive Vice President (MSN, RN, CPHQ) started Serengeti Care in Renton, Washington in 2016, years before a single franchise was sold.
Albert has a doctorate in behavioral health and both are credentialed nurses who had spent their careers inside hospitals, quality programs, and home health, and both believed home care deserved a higher clinical bar than the national chains were offering. They built Serengeti Care client by client, trained their own caregivers, earned ACHC accreditation, and only franchised once the model had proven itself in the field.
Today, their credentials still shape the company, the care protocols, the training curriculum, the quality standards, and the way franchisees are supported. It is the only home care franchise in the United States whose founders practiced the work before they packaged it.
Five structural advantages that national chains cannot replicate, built in from day one, not added as an afterthought.
Credentials and culture matter for their own sake. They also happen to be exactly what the market is now selecting for, as hospital discharge pressure increases, families grow more discerning, and the agencies competing on price discover that a crowded market has no floor. Serengeti’s model is built for this moment, not borrowed from a playbook designed for a different one.
Footprints designed for defensibility, not density.
Operating territories across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, and Montana, with protected footprints to support stability and growth.
Every territory benefits from meaningful clinical credibility.
ACHC accreditation is held by roughly 8% of Washington home care agencies, and by every Serengeti territory. The model worked in the field before it was offered to owners.
Founded in 2016 and franchised only after the clinical model was proven in the field, not a brand built first and a service figured out later.
Β IS SERENGETI RIGHT FOR YOU?
The Difference Shows Up Before You Open Your Doors
Serengeti franchisees come from different backgrounds: clinical, corporate, and everything in between. What they share is not a resume. It is a belief that home care done right is both a calling and a durable business.Β
Here is what that looks like depending on where you are starting from.
A franchise model that speaks your language from day one.
If you’re a nurse considering franchise ownership, Serengeti is the only model where your credentials are not just accepted, they are the foundation of the business you are buying into. You step into an infrastructure that already speaks your language, so you can lead from day one instead of translating.
The question is not market size; it is defensibility.
If you’re a business operator evaluating home care franchises, the question isn’t whether the market is big, it is which model is defensible. Clinical founders, ACHC accreditation, and founder-direct support are durable moats that no national chain can retrofit once you are already in market.
Leadership matters more than pretending to be clinical.
If you’re new to healthcare but drawn to this work, the Serengeti model is built so you never have to fake clinical expertise, it lives in the protocols, the training, and the founders you can call. Your job is to lead people and build community relationships; ours is to make sure the standard of care beneath you is never in question.
“Excellent service and care. Dennis and James took excellent care of my father. James took extra time out of his day to reach out to me personally, to see how I was doing after my dad passed. I highly recommend them.”
